Some more Berzerker-work before the weekend

Berzerker 6 out of 8 has been built and prepped.

I was able to salvage another member of what would have been a chosen squad marine (the units I started to make for a SoM kill-team). That is why I have two marines hunched down, originally they were modeled to keep a low-profile in the sense that they would be sneaking around. Fortunately the hunched look was usable for a pose. So I am happy that the mini can continue its service in the name of the Renegade God.

I really want to call this guy Horned Toad and so far he is my favorite. I figure the horns on his armor are for trophies and holding up fresh snacks right up off the battlefield. If I try making a true-scale marine I would like to put a torn up IG torso on the spikes.

One thing I really decided to do to make some of these guys stand out was add a small flesh sheet and stretched face. So far this is the best I could do, I hope to make it look better when I sit down and paint this fella up.

Here are the Berzerkers of Malal as of today. Did a little bit of paint chipping to the two recently painted SoM and decided to make this squad into "pairs" (like Blood Gorgon Bond-Brothers). So that is why they are matched up back to back. I still have two more to make to finish up an 8 man squad (then I am out of bitz :( )

If anyone has a good tutorial or suggestion of painting dead flesh I am all ears! And as always, thanks for stopping by and hope you like what you see!

Berzerkers for MALAL!

Well, it is time for one of those fancy updates!

I had some time the other day so I thought to expand on my SoM Berzerker unit and made some new additions:

Then I had more time to sit down and paint them:
The recipe for white that I am using is still coming out nice and smooth. Follow by a little wash of badab black between the white armor plates and metal trim and some other parts to show texture. Then I decided to try some weathering by making mud/dirt on their feet and greaves. It isn't very visible on the black armored legs however. I am so-so happy with how they are coming out. I will need to do some more of this to add that "we've been in the field" look.

Then I got more adventurous and tried some paint chipping:
I am not too thrilled with it but I got a few positive responses to it. I took a blister pack piece of sponge, got some adeptus battlegrey and started the initial chipping. Then I painted a line under the marking with fortress grey.

I definitely want to practice  more on this because I do want to add wear and tear to the armor, especially for when it is a group of cannibalistic marines who worship a forbidden god.

And last but not least, one more addition was made to the force after my bout with painting:
I really like how he came out but I have three berzerkers with chainsword in their left hand and facing left. So I will need to be more creative with my next few builds, one of which will be a skull champion.

Recently I have also painted up some Vampire Count Skeletons which I will post on this blog once I snap some proper pictures.

A Random Update

I have been beyond infrequent on this Blog. I have also made this blog with a singular focus, so in the future I will actually have this blog cover more on my general hobby interests in the realm of both WHFB & WH40K instead of a single renegade chapter (I think that should work out nicely). So expect to see some Iron Warriors, Imperial Fists, and others creeping into this in the near future.

Anyways, I have done a good bit of work on the Sons of Malice.

Current state of the Army:
Since the last post I have done a healthy bit of work:
-Painted the Corpse Guard (my Malal take on the Wolf Guard).
-Finished building the Land Raider Crusader
-And I have been finally experimenting with highlighting and basing.

I still need to get proper bases for the "fenrisian wolves" and the City of Death scenery sprue so I can model the bases. After that I will just need to build my second Corpse Guard squad and paint everything.

Pictured above I also have two Power Armor wearing SoM. They could be part of this army but I had another idea awhile back.
The Chain-axe wielding marine is my count-as mini for Kharn named Brother-Anarch Fovvus and the other SoM is nameless but will be the start of a group of Berzerkers. I have decided if I can salvage enough minis I will make a small berzerker army for the heck of it.

The little guy is named Short-Round after the Indiana Jones movie character. He can either be an objective or maybe even a wound marker for some character. Basically, the more damage they take (wounds), these little critters come in to help out as much as they can I reckon. *I don't really get a chance to play so thats I think it works.

Well, that is all for this post!

First Post, Gonna try out this Blogging Stuff

Well, to anyone who was curious enough to check out this blog, I will be featuring my Sons of Malice here (This will be running alongside threads I have on other 40k related forums). I am also sure that other Legion/Chapter/Warband will pop up from time to time. I have a sizable Imperial Fists army and I am building up a Blood Angels army as well.

The Sons of Malice are being built as a Logan-Wing since I like the idea of a purely terminator army and I can build up a large army (point-wise) with only a handful of minis.

So, to start off, some pics:
-Army so far built
-Hister the Abhored (Logan Grimnar count-as) *He will be paint stripped and rebuilt to better reflect LG.
-Geor the Blind (Njal Stormcaller count-as/rune priest)
 -Nay'Pal the Warcaller (Wolf Priest)
-Nostras the Ravager (Wolf Guard Battle Leader)
and his "Fenrisian Wolves". *Currently painting one and they will need proper bases.
-Corpse Guard Squad 1

So that is the army so far. I am still thinking of what I want to do for the bases. Might try something along the lines of a ruined urban streets with rubble. I also need to go back and do more detail to these minis such as highlighting which I am not very good at. I may want to add some wear and tear to them as well.

More to come later when I get the time. Thanks for taking a look!
